Yes, I played cello fifth through twelfth grades. Then I went to colleges that didn't have strings programs and effectively put the cello away (although I still posess it). People are sometimes disappointed that I don't play anymore, but I have so many other interests and after high school there was no one to play with and it wasn't any fun. I'm so out of practice now that I can't play like I used to, but it was a great part of my youth, and I was lucky that the city schools in Memphis had a strings program. I'm not terribly musically talented, but my accomplishments were that I went to All State Orchestra all three years I was eligible in high school, and my senior year I was in the Memphis Youth Symphony, which was great fun. We rehearsed for three hours on Sunday afternoons, if you can imagine!
